Education

Nazareth College of Rochester M.S. in Education Literacy Specialist Program GPA: 3.97 SUNY College at Geneseo B.S. in Education Summa Cum Laude Childhood Education with Special Education GPA: 3.83 I have the following teaching certifications: Literacy Specialist, Gr. B-6 Early Childhood Education, Gr. B-2 Childhood Education, Gr. 1-6 Teaching students with Disabilities at the Childhood Level, Gr. 1-6

Experience

I have been a classroom teacher in the following positions: 3-5 Special Education Teacher Second Grade Teacher Fourth Grade Teacher Through my 5 years as a full-time teacher, I have taught students with a wide-range of academic needs. Each year I taught students in the prealphabetic and partial alphabetic stages to word-callers (average fluency but weak comprehension). My data collection last year demonstrated that in a six-month period, through intense reading interventions, every student on my caseload increased both their reading level and comprehension- some by more than two academic years. Despite my formal training in reading, I was actively involved in the National Science Teachers Association and have taught various science and math clubs as well. I feel confident, therefore, that I have the skills necessary to pinpoint the unique needs of your child in all subject areas and then provide the necessary instruction. I recently left my classroom teaching position to move out to Arizona. I still love working closely with kids and helping them not only master new challenges but develop a love for learning which is why I would love to tutor your child! From my 5 years in the classroom, I have accumulated many teaching supplies to make sessions engaging and fun. I have professional leveled readers and math tools as well as my own unique teacher-created materials that help ensure success. Additionally, with my training in special education I am qualified to teach a range of academic and social needs. In particular, I have experience teaching children with the following; Specific Learning Disabilities, Developmental Delays, Autism, Downs Syndrome, Processing Disorders, and ADD.

Hobbies

One of my passions is traveling. I have been to over 15 countries and love experiencing new cultures and people. In my spare time, I scrap-book and enjoy looking up new projects on pintrest! I also love to hike and have been having a lot of fun exploring the desert having grown up in New England! Kids learn best when they are engaged and I truly believe there is a way to incorporate a child's interest into any subject area. Many times, more than just knowledge, kids need a confidence boost to truly soar and sometimes teaching the tutor can be just that confidence booster. If your child has specific hobbies and interests that I am unfamiliar with I would love to learn more about them with your child.
