Experience
I have recently retired after 38 continuous years in the classroom. I began my teaching career in 1976, teaching elementary art grades K-6. In 1984, I transferred to Miami High School where I taught, Fine Art, Yearbook and CTE Graphic Design for 24 years. I also served as the Humanities Department Head, CTE Director and a Skills USA Advisor. I completed my career beginning in 2006 at Gila Community College in Globe AZ. At GCC, I served as the Head of the Art Department, full time Art Instructor and CTE Graphic Design teacher for CVIT. College level courses I have taught, Beg. & Adv. Drawing-7 years, Life Drawing-7 semesters, World Art History (To and from the Renaissance)-10 years, Beg. & Adv. Painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor and airbrush)-7 years, Glass Arts (stained and fused glass)-7 years, Beg. & Adv. Digital Photography-5 years and CTE Graphic Design-4 years. I have advanced traininng in numerous art and graphic design software programs such as, Corel Draw Graphics Suite, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier and Dream Weaver. I am also very familiar with most Microsoft products such as Office, Movie Maker, Power Point and Scanning software. Over the years, as I served as a Skills USA advisor, my students have won many awards and public recognitions, including 10 gold medals and many more Silver and Bronze. I have taken numerous groups of students to the Skills USA National Championships in Kansas City, MO. I have owned and opperated Handteq Enterprises, a fine-commercial art and photography company since 1983 and have hundreds of satisfied customers. Hobbies
I am a family man, have helped to raise 6 children, including 3 college graduates. Animal lover, currently with 6 dogs and 5 cats. I enjoy, all kinds of art, including drawing, painting, airbrushing, glass arts, photography and sculpture. Some of my other hobbies include, travel, history, motorcycling and off-roading, camping, hiking, hunting and fishing. I am an avid sports fan and enjoy, football and basketball the most. I have a lifetime interest in cars and trucks and have built several "hot rods" and "classic cars" in my life. I have a huge interest in Southwestern Indian Rock Art and have visited most easily reachable rock art sites in the southwest. My Masters Research project studied and recorded rock art and current theories regarding it. As part of my Masters Degree, I completed about 65 paintings studying and portraying rock art. I am fascinated by the mystery and symbolism of rock art including petroglyphs and pictographs. I have spent a lifetime studying and creating photography. Got my first 35mm camera at 16 and have been doing photography ever since. As a youth, I played the drums in various groups including Frank Insanna and his Orchestra, Phx. I gave up the drums after my first couple of years of college as it was interfering with my education. While in the groups, I picked up the guitar and still play occasionally. Most importantly, I have spent a lifetime helping others reach their educational and personal goals in the Arts.
